The problem: Due to a financial shortfall and a major shift in state educational laws – The School Town of Munster this year froze all teacher salaries after years of minimal increases. (Take time to think back and recall some of the inspirational teachers and coaches you came in contact with.) We still have a quality faculty because we have been able to hire top graduates from some of the best colleges and universities; however, we are in danger of losing our excellent teachers and not being able to compete with other school districts for superior starting salaries for beginning teacher candidates.
The solution: John Friend and Mary Yorke were able to obtain a commitment of one million dollars from Joe Mansueto, a class of ’74 grad and founder of Morningstar, an investment research company. This commitment of $200,000 a year for the next five years, specifically for rewarding teachers, will serve as a challenge to those of us who value our school system and have benefited from its standards of excellence in all areas.
How Can You Help: We would like to exceed Joe’s gift by raising over one million dollars in the next five years. Thus we would create a pool of money to provide awards to the top teachers as measured by an objective teacher rating system used throughout the nation
We are asking for your help – please consider a tax deductible gift of cash, stock etc. If your employer has a matching program, please utilize this important strategy. (We are partnered with the Munster Education Foundation – a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation). All dollars will go to our qualified teachers; everyone involved is a volunteer, including Peoples Bank who has stepped up to assist with the management of the funds. Please consider a gift and, if possible, a five year pledge to insure ongoing funding coupled with Joe’s donation.
